Default Trying to change Password, hilarity ensues

Ok I'm pretty much just going to copy paste this. I'll put in dates and stuff and edit out key details, but other than that you can see what I went through. Just skim read the first few and skip to the last one if you are thinking tldr.

So I've seen the message to change your password on the log in screen so I decided to try it.
Turns out you have to use the NCsoft account to change it. This is a problem as I rarely use it, and have totally forgotten my password.
My password hint seems to be incorrect, as I am 100% I got it right. So the password must have changed at some point that I can't remember.
What can I do about this? I really want to change my password.
I can provide details of my Guild Wars account and anything else you need to prove that it's me.
Here follows the Typical Response

Hello Chocobo,

Thanks for contacting the European support team.

At this time and in order to assist you, we would need to verify some details. Please provide us the following information:

For your NCsoft account:

*First and last name
*Postal address
*Email address
*Date of Birth
*20-digits Serial codes/25-digit Access keys
*Unique account ID: (This was sent to you via email on the date your game account was activated, with a subject header of “Game Account Activated.”)
*Last 4 digits of the credit card used on your account

For your Guild Wars game account:
*The creation date of your Guild Wars Account (even if approximate)
*A scan or photograph the actual insert showing the access keys and the receipts of purchase as “jpg” attachments in a reply to this message

Please be so kind as to send us as much of the information as possible in one message. This will help us to deal with your request faster.

Regards,
GM Alec

For your NCsoft account:

*First and last name
*** ***

*Postal address
*** ***

*Email address
*** ***

*Date of Birth
11/06/91 (June 11th, 1991)

*20-digits Serial codes/25-digit Access keys
I'm not sure how many keys you want, so I'll just provide you with my latest key I used to buy a character slot:
*********************

*Unique account ID: (This was sent to you via email on the date your game account was activated, with a subject header of “Game Account Activated.”)
I looked through my email for this and can't find it sorry

*Last 4 digits of the credit card used on your account
****

For your Guild Wars game account:
*The creation date of your Guild Wars Account (even if approximate)
My account is 55 months old, so I'm guessing somewhere around July 2005

*A scan or photograph the actual insert showing the access keys and the receipts of purchase as “jpg” attachments in a reply to this message
I honestly have no idea where those cards are, since they become useless once bound to your account, nor do I keep reciepts. I'll continue looking for the cards but I dont have my hopes too high. I hope all the other info is enough, I'll try my best to awnser any more questions

Now this is where it gets weird. I woke up to this email, and quickly raced to my account. I do not use racial slurrs, and I found out my account was not banned.

Hello,

After investigating the reported issue, we can confirm that your account has rightfully been suspended from our service as a result of a violation of our rules that you agreed to when you first launched Guild Wars. Specifically, your account was suspended for:

- Racial Slurs

The details of this incident are on record and we can confirm that we will not remove the suspension from your account.

Please keep in mind that Guild Wars is a global game with hundreds of thousands of players. This means that standards of behaviour must be upheld. For your convenience, you can obtain more information in our "Rules of Conduct" and "Conduct Breaches & Outcomes" pages, which are listed below.

- Rules of Conduct: http://eu.guildwars.com/support/arti...es_of_conduct/
- Conduct Breaches & Outcomes: http://eu.guildwars.com/support/arti..._and_outcomes/

Thank you for your understanding.

So, they want us to change the password, but not only is the follow up email two weeks late, but it is totally unrelated and doesn't apply to me? Obviously they copy pasted this, but seriously I'm pretty shaken up by this, I really thought my account was banned here just for asking for help. Not even sure if I should reply to this, I'm afraid I've been marked for something I didn't do.

Maybe they sent the message to the wrong person. The reply has no relation to your request.

You can change your GW password in the game, though. After you log in, just click the Edit Account button in the character select screen(bottom left), and tick the change password box. Then you just enter your current password followed by your new one and done. I believe the password reset button on the log in screen does require the NCMA, but I've never used that method.

Choco, i played paperchase with support for a couple weeks and said screw it. I have been playing since maybe 6 months after beta and have bought everything these people have tossed out.

Yet when i need tech support not only do they want info i have no clue how to re-locate but they act like we should have a GW file in our file cabinet right next to our tax info.

I have gone through 2 houses and 3 cars since i started playing, and they want me to hang onto all my GW info??? get serious people. This is a game!! If i need to change a password i shouldnt have to go through national security protocols to change it. This is bordering on the insane now. You want proof of purchase on everything?? sure ok, there are much much more important things in life that dont require this much paperwork.

NCsoft really has been on their arses as of late. Do note that support isn't just Anet.

This is NCsoft screwing up, just as it is with the hacking issue. This is not Anet screwing up. Keep that in mind and don't go bashing the wrong people.

Does that mean that someone else has gotten your support answer instead of their "your account has been suspended due to racial slurs"? With all your compromising information in it?

You should really change your password xD

This just refreshed my memory. Even if you have your account linked to NCSoft, you can change your game password via logging in, and clicking on the "Edit Account" button, without having to do anything with NCSoft. I don't know if this has changed with all the recent security changes, but at least that is how I did it 2 weeks ago. Give it a try.

That is an excellent point. Contact support immediately, and change your password yourself if possible. NCSoft probably has quite a few support requests at the moment, and it's possible they may have erred in this case by sending messages to the incorrect customer(s).

I've been using the same password since release (past 56 months).

If you are not forced to change your password (like when your account got stripped, or if you get the wrong emails from support ), I would avoid the NCSoft site or Support. I know it's silly, but seriously...

Just changed my password. I'm so paranoid I went over to my family's computer (they bought it very recently) and put Guild Wars on that so I could change my password, just incase my computer has some kind of virus.

I'm a bit too freaked out to contract support again, just incase they actually ban me or something :S.

I've included a screenshot to better assist in this matter. In case of any reason the image I've attached does not work- some of the things that were said by him/her were:

"f*** you stabby."
"F*** YOU ALL!!"
"GTFO YOU BRICK SHI**ING F*****"

Once more, stuff like this does *not* need to be said in Local Chat.

Only works if un-linked with Play NC

Nay, just managed to do it. Just log in and click edit account. Don't think I'm ever going back to ncsoft for account support unless I really really need it now.

Just changed my password too. Didn't think it was necessary as I've been playing for 5 years and no problems but still this password is rated way higher so if they didn't get past the first there's no way in hell they'll find this as I intend to use it ONLY for Guild Wars.

Bear in mind I'm no millionaire but still the feeling of having your account raped must feel horrible.

Now, see, how is it even POSSIBLE to mix up tickets? Shouldn't it just be a simply 'fill in the blanks and hit reply' like when we submit them?

I'm having the same issues with support. With all the hacked accounts threads here and the new red "change your password now!!!" message, I decided to finally change my password.

GW is the first online game I've played and when I set up my account I did a lot of things wrong. My password isn't the greatest, but it's worked for 4+ years. However I've bought stuff in the ingame store so that means I have a master account someplace but I don't remember ever setting one up thru NCSoft or linking to it. It was all automatic behind the scenes when I added the online store.

So, I contacted NCSoft support and asked for help changing my password. I got the standard reply that Chocobo did and replied to that with all my info except for the game keys. I can't locate them. (Like I said, I did a lot of things wrong).

NCSoft replied and said sorry can't help ya. I really wish I could change the account e-mail or password or both but I guess having a master account that's unknown to me puts a damper on that. Oh well.

EDIT: Whoa! Never mind. I just read the last few posts that came in after I posted this and I was able to change my password thru the game login screen. That's new!!! Never worked before with a linked account.

It's not. You've always been able to change it once you've logged in, it's hitting the 'resend password' button BEFORE you log in that doesn't work on a linked account.

Wrong, I changed my password recently ingame (as per the red login notice) and I never went anywhere near the NCsoft site. The new password works fine for my accounts.

This.

I only use my NCsoft account if unavoidable. Even bought a new copy of GW to use as a storage mule for anything valuable recently and can confirm that unlinked and linked accounts have no difference in how you change the password.

Got in the habit of throwing the receipt in the box along time ago. They come in handy for crazy requirements like this from support. Keep screenshots of games purchased online. You really have to cover your ass today...
